Abstract
Since 2017, the armed forces’ missions in Chile have been expanding. The deployment in the northern macro-zone starting in 2023 is an example of this, as the Armed For-ces must control, register, and detain people at the border. Consequently, the working question is: What is the correlation between insecurity and the missions of the Chilean armed forces? The answer is divided into three parts: the perspective on national de-fence and organized crime, the perception of insecurity in Chile, and data on organized crime and drug trafficking. The answer shows a correlation: greater insecurity leads to greater expansion of the armed forces’ missions
